Top 4 Benefits of Commercial Solar Installation
The country has seen a sharp increase in solar panel usage over the last five years, mostly because of the skyrocketing global energy crisis and the race for more renewable energy sources. For the last 77 years, we’ve seen the ebb and flow of solar panel necessity, benefits, and commercial solar panel installation and worked our way up to one of the premier commercial solar companies and installers in Colorado and the Rocky Mountain Region.
We are committed to fitting commercial buildings with solar panels and convincing our clients of the benefits solar panels can have, not only for the environment but for their buildings and wallets as well.
Electricity is one of the highest overhead costs for a business owner, and being connected to a commercial power grid means you are locked into the rise of electric rates and there is nothing you can do about it. Those hesitant about solar panels on buildings wonder mostly if they are a good investment. Let’s prove to you why they are:
Why Your Business Should Finally Go Solar
Don’t worry about the finite details, that’s why solar contractors are around. They give you the peace of mind to tap the potential of the sky without adding more of a headache to your day-to-day operations. At Douglass Colony Group, we offer a whole range of commercial solar services:
- Site Evaluation & Draft Designs
- Financial Modeling
- Design & Engineering
- Procurement & Risk Reduction
- Utility Applications
- Turnkey Solar Installation
- Operation & Maintenance
- Green Building
A good commercial solar contractor will approach each solar project by first performing an on-site survey of the building or location. They’ll strategically measure the patterns of sunlit and shaded areas and analyze the building’s current energy usage — this way they know exactly where to place the panels and how many.
This ensures the most efficient, long-lasting, and successful commercial solar panel installation, and one that will prove the benefits of solar panels are worth it.
The Four Benefits
If you’re looking for a way to earn a strong financial return, improve employee retention, give your brand a sustainable boost, or looking for ways to save money on taxes, consider the benefits solar panels will have for your business.
Low Risk & High ROI
Because of the increased demand for energy efficiency, and frankly, the trendy aspect of it, having solar panels on your building instantly increases the property value. Were you ever to sell, you’d have a leg-up in the market. Beyond the immediate value increase, you’ll see reduced operating expenses over time, which just means less money into running your business and more into your pockets. We all know energy is expensive, especially in a large commercial building, reduce your need for energy and you’ll reduce the costs.
Distinction & Differentiation
Everyone wants to be the best in the business. But how do you do that? Set yourself apart. Not every commercial building has a complex solar panel installation on their roofs or their properties. Investing in sustainability and also keeping up with the times in general, shows your commitment to maintaining and raising the quality of your building and its surroundings. This tells clients, investors, observers, and anyone that you care about the quality of your work and the way you present yourself to the world. In other words, investing in a commercial solar installation is great for your brand. If you preach sustainability and keeping up with changing times, and producing quality work, show the world you’re willing to walk the walk.
Financial Perks
We talked already about cutting overhead costs and saving money that way due to the efficiency of solar panel systems, but there are a number of other ways to save money both on the installation and the long-term use of solar panels on your building. Commercial solar installation is extremely affordable, thanks to incentives in the form of tax breaks. We are experts in guiding our clients through the commercial solar depreciation process: the Federal Investment Tax Credit (FTC), the Production Tax Credit (PTC), the Modified Accelerated Cost Recovery System (MACRS), Bonus Depreciation, and Net Metering. Solar PV qualifies for 100% Bonus depreciation under the MACRS.
There are also ways to ensure your dedication to sustainability pays off by looking into Solar Tax Credits, Utility Incentives, and Renewable Energy Credits (RECs). As an incentive for installing solar panels, the Federal Government offers the Investment Tax Credit (ITC) for 30% if you install solar panels. Utility companies also provide production incentives and Renewable Energy Credits if you install solar.
Year-Round Value
By investing in solar, you are investing in the future and the future of your building. A self-contained solar generation system lowers your energy consumption and protects your building for a more long-lasting, successful business future. The great thing about Colorado specifically is our unbeatable number of sunny days. If there was ever a palace for commercial solar panel installation, it’s Colorado. Even in the winter, your solar panels will be working to bring in value for your building.
Solar at Work
In 2020, we took on a large solar project for one of Denver’s newest and most desirable office buildings, The Hub. The unique building design maximizes the flexibility of the space and allows for beautiful views towering over RiNo Art District and looking out at the mountains in the distance. Because the roof sits at a nice 100 feet above the ground, Douglas Colony had to get creative with its solar installation.
So, we rose to the challenge. We created a custom hybrid of ballasted and attached racking in order to safely and effectively secure each panel on the roof of the building. The Hub is just one example of the type of projects we construct.
